The Effect of Straight Lines in Entrepreneurship
Hey, there it’s Robert here…
… I hope you’re having a terrific day wherever you are in the world right now.
I’m just out walking the dog and trying the most of what’s left of the sunshine before we well and truly go into autumn here in the UK.
But something that I wanted to talk to you about really quickly is basically what I call ‘The Law of Straight Lines”…
… You see most people that I come across that are worried about procrastinating, not getting the results they want out of life or their business, but what’s normally happening, is that they getting caught up in a series of diversions.
Now, sadly for the most part, those diversions are often caused by other people’s wants, needs and agendas, and not their own, which is even worse.
But a very simple message I try to get across to people is that they need to think more in terms of ‘straight lines’…
… Let me explain it like this…
… Let’s take point A and Point B:
What’s the quickest way to get from Point A to Point B?
The answer is simple, it has to be a straight line!
And yet, why do so many of us allow ourselves to deviate from that straight line into a mish, mash of curvy lines that go all over the place, only to end up in the same place (hopefully)?
Do you get my drift?
It doesn’t make any sense…
… It takes you maybe 2 or 3 times as long to get to where you’re trying to get to because you’re constantly being diverted by other things.
Other things are grabbing your attention and taking your focus off the goal (or outcome) that you’re aiming for.
And consequently, it will take you much longer to achieve that goal (or outcome), and it could even scupper the goal completely and as result, you end up missing the goal completely and not getting the outcome you wanted.
So, I think I’ve said enough already to make you realise that although the concept of thinking in straight lines, and structuring your life to work more in straight lines is a very simple one, it’s also a very powerful one…
… Because if you are moving directly from ‘Point A’ to ‘Point B’ in every possible situation, whether that’s in your personal life or your business (whatever it may be), then it stands to reason that your results will be multiplied tenfold, and you’ll be working far less hard in all areas of your life and getting far better results!
Now in terms of your business what this means is, you’ll be working more effectively, you’ll be using less of your valuable time actually working, because you’re getting more from the time you are putting into your business, and you’re grabbing back all of that time to spend with your loved ones, and get quality of life in other areas.
So what I’m trying to say is…
… It’s a really great way to stop procrastinating and get your business working for you, rather than the other way around, which that most people have this structured.
You see because we are not working effectively most of the time, because we aren’t working in straight lines and getting straight to the meat of the situation, straight to what needs to be done right now and prioritizing (this is all straight line thinking)…
… Because of that, we are having to work much harder to get the results we’re looking for, and we never build the systems into our business to give us the results we’re looking for because we haven’t got time to sit and strategize…
… You can see that right?…
It’s because you’re constantly on the go, constantly working, constantly in there doing the job…
… Because you’re being diverted and you’re not using the law of straight lines.
So, I am going to cut this now…
But go away and think about this.
Think about some simple ways in which you could apply straight line thinking in your business and in your life.
Play with it for the next week, and just see what changes naturally occur as a result…
… I’m sure you’ll like the results!
Do leave a comment on my blog, send me an email of whatever, and let me know how this strategy has impacted you after applying it.
Good luck it, enjoy it, and I hope you get some great results from it (I know you will)…
… I’ll check in again soon 🙂
