Here’s a formula for you…
STRESS + REST = GROWTH
It doesn’t matter if we are talking about the quest for physical gains in performance or mental and emotional gains, that same formula applies.
As with everything in our external, physical reality, a balance has to be present in order to maximise not only our personal performance in any field of endeavour but stand any chance of finding and maintaining happiness to any degree.
Let’s look at the athlete that spends most of his or her time in the gym, training for hours each day in the belief that ‘more is better’, and then failing to take the time to rest properly to allow the mental and physical recovery processes to take place…
Would you imagine that he or she is moving closer to their desired goals or further away?
It’s obvious right?… Eventually, their performance levels will drop because of fatigue and they will gradually spiral downwards until they represent a shadow their former self, and their performance levels are now lower than a snake’s belly!
And so it goes for entrepreneurs and business owners who feel that spending more time at the office and taking on more job roles is what they need to do because they don’t feel comfortable delegating, because after all ‘if you want a job doing well, do it yourself right?’…
WRONG!!
They spend more time at the office because more time on the job equals more money, right?
WRONG!!
Last time I checked, we each have 24 hours in each day, and 7 days in each week, so there isn’t any more time to be had.
Go and try and do a deal with God (I’ve been trying to strike a deal for years), it’s not going to get you anywhere!
So let’s face the facts, there just isn’t any more time, so what are you going to do?
What you have to do is use your time more productively and intelligently.
I have two suggestions for you to start with.
1: Get acquainted with the idea of working ‘on the business’ and ‘not in the business’.
Successful entrepreneurs and business owners do not concern themselves with ‘doing the job’, but instead, they busy themselves ‘building a business’ that works for them (rather than the other way around), and gives them freedom and lifestyle.
If you are wearing too many hats in your business, or to put it another way if you were to draw up an organisational chart of your business and find nearly all (if not all) of the names in the various boxes making up your business structure are actually yours, it’s time to do what is necessary to get out of the business and go to work on it and that usually means a change of mindset and finding the courage to bring others into your organisation and delegate to them in complete faith.
The sense of freedom and relief from stress that you’ll feel when your overcome this barrier is huge and if you’re currently in this potion and don’t believe me, try it and see.

2: Make an appointment with yourself:
Most of us spend each day tending to the wants, needs, and wishes of others. Living life in accordance with other people’s agenda is a common problem and it is no good for your long term. You need to set aside time for you.
Quality time for you that you can spend doing whatever makes you happy. And you know what? To continually put others in front of yourself is like telling your subconscious that you are just not that important. Not important enough to have a slot in your own diary!
Your slot should be the first slot allocated in your diary. The most constructive time you will ever spend is the quiet time you spend with yourself just meditating, reflecting or thinking. It will return you so much in terms of not just finance but also in terms of self-worth and spiritual well being.
