We all know how easy it is to get stuck in our comfort zone, even when we are uncomfortable where we currently are, we actually become comfortably uncomfortable!
That’s why changing a habit can be so difficult for some people…
It’s because changing a habit is like getting out of your comfort zone and for the reasons I have already mentioned, this can be a very difficult task to undertake no matter how desperate we are to change a habit that we dislike in ourselves.
To put it simply, most of us attach more pain in our mind to the idea of stretching outside of our comfort zone than we do pleasure attached to the desired outcome we perceive to be the result of actually doing it!
Let’s be honest, most people have a habit they would like to modify be it physical, mental spiritual or even emotional, something that does not please us.
Habits become deeply ingrained in our minds thus making a change can really turn out to be complex. To be able to make a change, you have to focus on what the behaviour you want to achieve and not the one you want to eliminate and by doing this you will replace that behavior in your subconscious mind.
Thing is, this usually takes around 30-90 days of conscious effort to do this and sometimes it can take even longer if the habit you want to remove, has been part of your DNA (as it were), for most of your life.
Ever wonder why it is easy for some people to change while others just can’t?
Well, it all has to do with the subconscious desire, and the conscious commitment to do whatever it takes to make the required changes. When you have that real burning desire on your subconscious level and that unwavering commitment on the conscious level, then you are more likely to stick with it until the desired changes show up in your life.
After 30-90 days of conscious effort, in most cases, the conscious effort has transmuted into a subconscious reprogramming that now forms part of your new default settings.
In other words, it is now a part of who you actually are, rather than who you are trying to be, and as such, there is no conscious effort required at this stage to maintain this moving forward.
It works like this:
Different Belief System = Different Actions = Different Results
It’s not rocket science and it does work!
All you need to have is clarity on the changes you want to make and the commitment to make a conscious effort to make those changes until they become engrained in you as a new belief system and a new habitual way of thinking, communicating with yourself and action-taking.
You really can Be, Do and Have anything you want in life, once you believe it.
You see most folks live by the old adage “I’ll believe it when I see it”.
But what they should understand is that they’ll see it when they believe it.
Start today by taking a look at some small habits that you would like to change and start making a conscious effort to think and act differently when you would normally employ those habits, and do things differently, in a more productive and positive way, that supports who you want to be.
Keep it up for at least 30-90 days and see the positive changes start showing up in your life.
Suspend any disbelief you might have and just do it!
And, let me know how you get on.
Warmest
